This game is about the process of remembering.
Theres this feeling of inbetween-ness and liminality when you try to remember something, that penultimate moment before you either forget or remember. To me that process is very visual, surreal and dreamlike and with this game I tried to visualize it through three different levels that each represent a step in that process for me. I used computer errors and digital memory as a metaphor for how fragmented and surreal trying to remember can be. As well as the metaphor of tragedy for surpressed memories and how sometimes not remembering is the better option.
This project made me fall in love with leveldesign and a more art-for-the-sake-of-art and conceptual approach to videogames. It is a demo/prototype for Project 1.

The game is divided into three levels/stages, each representing a part of the process of remembering through different imagery. Level 1 represents the initial stage of remembering, knowing that there is a memory but not knowing what or where it is and only having fragments of it. Here represented by the players own death/murder. Level 2 visualizes the looking for that memory and finding it and also the regret of finding and searching for it in the first place. Level 3 is probably the most conceptual and least graspable one, representing having to live with the consequences of remembering and probably never forgetting again, "saving" the found memory indefinitely, but also a kind of catharsis of finally being able to move on now that you remember and not being stuck in this limbo of not knowing and knowing.

The focus of the project and modul was leveldesign, so the assets are mostly from third parties found on itch.io and sketchfab (for credits see itch.io link). The Key/Gameplay assets, here the CD and its case were selfmade.
